Civil Rights Communications Track

Position Overview

The Comms & Digital Strategy Intern will support the development and execution of digital communications across social media, web, and public-facing platforms. This role is designed as a structured learning experience for individuals seeking to build a strong foundation in communications within a mission-driven environment.

Interns will contribute to focused projects and initiatives while developing skills in writing, storytelling, and digital strategy. This position is best suited for individuals who are thoughtful, detail-oriented, and interested in how messaging shapes public understanding.

Responsibilities
  • Support content development across social media platforms, applying platform-specific strategy and audience awareness
  • Contribute to written communications, including newsletters, press materials, and digital messaging, with a focus on clarity and tone
  • Assist in translating complex topics into accessible, audience-centered content across formats (captions, visuals, short-form concepts)
  • Participate in drafting and refining messaging in response to ongoing communications needs, with attention to accuracy and consistency
  • Review and analyze media coverage and digital content to identify trends, framing, and areas for improvement
  • Support the planning and execution of digital initiatives or campaigns
  • Assist in maintaining website content and reviewing digital materials to ensure alignment with messaging and usability
  • Contribute to a focused, project-based initiative over the course of the internship, applying learning across modules into a cohesive final output

Qualifications
  • Enrolled in college or a recent graduate
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and digital tools
  • Ability to work independently while remaining collaborative and responsive to feedback
  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership over assigned work
  • Interest in civil rights, media, and community-focused work
Compensation

$500 – $1000 Stipend
