CAIR-Texas Congratulates Latino Voter Rights Group on Defeat of AG Paxton’s Lawless Attack

Feb 2, 2026 | HTX Press Releases

(HOUSTON, TX, 1/30/2026) – The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas) today congratulated Jolt Initiative, a Texas Latino voter rights organization, for its victory against Attorney General Ken Paxton’s lawless attack on the group.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Pitman has issued a preliminary injunction halting Attorney General Paxton’s attempt to dissolve the corporate charter of Jolt Initiative. In his decision, Judge Pitman found that the Attorney General brought the action against Jolt Initiative in bad faith and had failed to establish any credible evidence of wrongdoing by the organization.

In a statement, CAIR-Texas Executive Director Mustafaa Carroll said:

“We congratulate Jolt Initiative on this important victory. This is not just a win for Jolt Initiative or the cause of voting rights; this is a victory against tyranny and a sign that Attorney General Paxton and Governor Abbott do not have carte blanche to persecute any organization with which they disagree.”

He noted that CAIR filed a federal lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton to block enforcement of Abbott’s unconstitutional and defamatory proclamation targeting the organization.
