CAIR-Texas Condemns The Kinkaid School’s Retaliatory Probe of Approved Palestinian Cultural Display

Muslim civil rights group calls for protection of families against external political pressure

The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned reported retaliatory actions and a selective internal investigation launched by The Kinkaid School following a pre-approved Palestinian cultural display at the school’s annual Culture Fest on March 31.

The organization has received reports that following external social media pressure and partisan commentary from federal representatives, school leadership initiated a selective investigation into the parents involved in the display.

These developments occur amidst a significant leadership shift at the school, including the resignation of Head of School Jonathan Eades. The controversy began after a faculty committee originally awarded second place to the Palestinian cultural display, which had been approved by the school prior to the Culture Fest. This outcome triggered a wave of external criticism and subsequent administrative measures that community advocates say unfairly target the families.

In a statement, CAIR-Texas said:

“Educational institutions must be spaces for diverse cultural expression and civil discourse, not arenas for administrative retaliation against those representing Palestinian heritage. We strongly condemn the dangerous conflation of Palestinian cultural identity with antisemitism. Characterizing a pre-approved as ‘hateful’ is a bad-faith tactic used to silence marginalized voices and justify discriminatory treatment.

“We are deeply concerned that school leadership has allowed external political pressure and partisan social media commentary to dictate internal disciplinary actions regarding a school-sanctioned event. Educational independence requires that schools protect their community members from outside harassment rather than succumbing to it. We call on The Kinkaid School to immediately cease all retaliatory investigations.

CAIR-Texas’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR-Texas es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
