(Houston, TX., 6/20/2019) – The Houston Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization today welcomes Lubabah Abdullah, Esq. as its new executive director.
Prior to joining CAIR-Houston, Lubabah was an attorney in St. Louis, MO. practicing in the areas of Islamic estate planning, family-based immigration and family law. Abdullah worked with Karamah: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights counseling women on the interplay between Islamic and civil law, particularly in matters relating to family law.
Lubabah also served as the women’s fund director, and eventually as the executive director of the Muslim Alliance of Indiana (MAI), where she developed and oversaw four legal programs, including a modest means legal clinic, a refugee legal assistance program, a protection order project, and immigration services for victims of domestic violence.
In a statement, Abdullah said:

With the rise of Islamophobia in Texas and across the nation, our vision is to continue to educate, empower and build stronger ties with community and organizations in the Greater Houston area in order to make our city and state the home it needs to be fo all people of all backgrounds”
“On behalf of the CAIR-Houston board of directors, I am pleased to welcome Lubabah Abdullah to the Houston community. We are thrilled to have her join the organization,” said CAIR-Houston Board Chair Yusuf Shere.
“We are confident that with her leadership, knowledge, legal expertise, and community experience, she will be able to provide the services to support the Muslim community that Houston needs now and in the years to come.”
He noted that Abdullah holds a bachelor’s degree in political science, with a minor in sociology. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri. She is bilingual, speaking both English and Arabic fluently, and is working on her conversational Spanish. Abdullah also serves on the board of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).
