CAIR-Houston to Denounce Increased Violence Toward Muslim, Arab and Palestinian Communities

(HOUSTON, TX, 10/16/23) – The Houston chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston) plans to hold a press conference on Tuesday, October 17, at 12 p.m. with Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian community leaders to denounce the increased violence and hateful rhetoric towards their communities in the wake of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza since last week.
Nationwide, the Council on American-Islamic Relations has noticed an increase in anti-Muslim, anti-Arab hate, contributing to the murder of a 6-year-old boy in Chicago, allegedly by his landlord, because his family is Palestinian and Muslim.

Locally, in Texas, students at the University of Texas were subjected to reported harassment and verbal taunts by men who did not attend the university during a scheduled teach-in on Palestine and Palestinian history.
“What’s clear is that the dehumanization that is portrayed in the media towards Palestinians in Gaza is now taking its own hateful face here in America.” said William White, Director of CAIR-Houston “We call on the media, politicians, and local leaders to condemn the violence in Gaza and end the use of hateful rhetoric toward the Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian communities.”
