CAIR-Houston Supports Hate Crime Charges for Alleged Racist Assault on Black Woman

Oct 30, 2025 | HTX Press Releases

The Houston chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization today expressed support for hate crime charges for a suspect who allegedly used racial slurs during an assault on a Black woman following a traffic incident. The suspect is currently charged with assault.

In a statement, CAIR-Houston Executive Director Imran Ghani said:

“This reportedly bias-motivated assault must be taken seriously and prosecuted to the full extent of the law, including hate crime enhancements. We stand in solidarity with the alleged victim and with all communities targeted by racism and hate.”

Ghani noted that earlier this year, CAIR-Houston called for hate crime charges against a man who allegedly attempted to run over a neighbor after calling him racial slurs.

He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
