CAIR-Houston staff met on July 15 with Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman regarding our concerns over comments he made regarding the size of the Muslim community in Houston Harris County. Sheriff Hickman explained that his comments were intended to express his concern “for” the community and not “about” the community.
He had also previously expressed a desire to build relations with community leaders to establish strong working relationships. The meeting was extremely productive and underpinned the reasons we must have continued dialogue. We asked the Sheriff to visit and conduct town hall meetings for the Muslim community.
