(HOUSTON, TX, 12/23/2022) – The Houston chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on law enforcement authorities to investigate a third vandalism of a Houston Mosque as a possible hate crime.

Worshippers at the Quba Institute in Southeast Houston discovered the mosque in disarray after an individual entered the mosque Tuesday night.

“Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the country, but that diversity does not shield us from hate. We are very concerned about this recent vandalism and attack on our prayer space and call on law enforcement authorities to swiftly investigate this attack and the prior incidents as possible hate crimes.” said William White, director of CAIR-Houston.

He said CAIR is urging American Muslims and Islamic institutions to take extra security precautions and is offering Muslim community leaders free copies of its booklet, “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety.”

The Washington-based Muslim civil rights group is also asking Muslim community members to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR’s Civil Rights Department at 202-742-6420 or by filing a report

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
