CAIR-Houston Condemns White Supremacist Flyers Left at Houses in Harris County, Urges Hate Crime Probe

Feb 6, 2022 | HTX Press Releases

(HOUSTON, TX, 2/6/2022) – The Houston chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston) today condemned the distribution of flyers promoting the racist white supremacist group Identity Aryan Freedom Network left at homes the Cypress area in Northwest Harris County.

CAIR-Houston also urged local police and the FBI to launch a hate crime investigation of the distribution of the hate materials as an act of ethnic intimidation. The Texas Hate Crimes Act defines hate crimes as crimes that are motivated by “prejudice, hatred, or advocacy of violence.”

Residents discovered the flyers Saturday and Sunday under the windshield wipers of their parked cars and on front doors. The hate materials have a cartoon with a heading that reads “2026: A Race Odyssey. At the current rate of Decline What Will America’s Major Cities Look Like in Ten Years?” The flyers were distributed last night and early this morning.

“The promotion of a racist and white supremacist group should not be tolerated in our communities,” said William White, director of operations for CAIR-Houston. “We ask for a hate crime investigation of this incident and urge anyone who has received these flyers to contact our office and share any door camera videos or photos they may have of the people who distributed this racist material. We will share our findings with local police and the FBI.”

White said Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
