CAIR-Houston Condemns Repeated Attacks on Synagogues, Advises Increased Vigilance, Security
(HOUSTON, TX, 1/25/2023) – The Houston chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston) today condemned two reported attacks on a synagogue in Houston and advised increased vigilance and security to local congregations.
A woman has had her bond revoked after reportedly entering a Houston synagogue during a preschool class and screaming at the children. The incident is alleged to have occurred a week after the woman broke into the synagogue and caused damage to the building and a Torah scroll. The woman also reportedly threatened the synagogue on social media. The woman is now facing charges of felony criminal mischief inside a place of worship and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

“Any attack on a house of worship is despicable and should be condemned by all communities,” said CAIR-Houston Director William White. “We urge congregations in the Houston area to increase their vigilance and step up security measures in the wake of these disturbing incidents.”
White urged faith communities in Texas nationwide to take extra security precautions using advice offered in CAIR’s booklet, “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety.” The security advice in the booklet applies to any institution or community.
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
