BREAKING: CAIR-Houston Welcomes Apology by Rep. Tony Tinderholt for Ramadan Remark

(HOUSTON, TX, 4/12/23) – The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas) today welcomed State Representative Tony Tinderholt’s apology for a past hateful statement about Ramadan.

We want to thank Representative Tinderholt for his willingness to meet with CAIR and his Muslim constituents to discuss his statement about Ramadan,” said William White, Director of CAIR-Houston. “Despite our differences, Texans can celebrate and learn from each other. It is refreshing and welcomed that Representative Tinderholt took the time to listen, learn, and issue an apology.” 

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims worldwide fast food and liquid from before sunrise to sunset and use the night to pray in congregation at their local mosque and break their fast with friends and family. All people are welcome to fast and observe Ramadan regardless of their faith. 

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
