The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization. CAIR’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
Although our mission is focused on American civil rights issues, there are times when we feel compelled to respond to international events. As we have watched with horror the tragedy in Gaza, we believe the American community should make its collective voice heard.
We are asking you to participate with thousands of other CAIR friends and supporters around the country in responding to events in Gaza by writing your elected representatives and demanding that the United States call for an immediate end to all violence between Israeli and Palestinian forces and return to the negotiating table as the only way to ensure peace and justice to Palestine.
ACTION REQUESTED: Complete the form below, which will generate a personalized letter which CAIR-TX will deliver to your elected representative. The text of the letter appears below the form.
Your name and address are required for the letter to be delivered to your elected representative. Please provide your email address and phone number if you would like to be contacted regarding future civic engagement opportunities.
As your constituent, I urge you to call for an immediate end to Israel’s airstrikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Gaza, which have resulted in the killing of hundreds and wounding of thousands of civilians.
Since Israel launched its campaign on July 8 of collective military punishment on the civilian population of Gaza, it has killed more than 1,800 Palestinians in air and artillery strikes, wounded nearly 10,000 people, destroyed thousands of homes and other buildings, and displaced over 200,000 people, according to reports collected by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees and other credible sources.
UN reports indicate that the majority of people killed in Gaza have been civilians, raising serious concerns about Israel’s disregard for international and humanitarian law.
Israel’s collective punishment of Gaza’s civilian population has not been criticized by the Obama administration; instead the White House has gone on the record to defend Israel’s airstrikes in Gaza and only condemn Hamas rocket attacks.
The U.S. government must not remain silent about Israel’s unjust and disproportionate use of force against the Palestinians in Gaza. The “right of a nation to defend oneself” does not extend to unrestrained aerial bombardments of civilian populations and must be condemned immediately.
Because Americans taxpayers provide Israel with billions of dollars of aid each year, we have a right to demand that those funds not be used to take the lives of innocent civilians.
I and other constituents in your district strongly urge you to call for an immediate end to Israel’s airstrikes targeting civilians in Gaza.
Thank you for your time in reading this letter, which I am sending in partnership with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). I would appreciate a written response from you so that I may hear your thoughts on this vital issue.
