ACTION ALERT:
CAIR-Houston to Join Events Mourning Death of Guatemalan Girl Who Died in U.S. Custody
(HOUSTON, TEXAS, 12/16/18) – The Houston chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston) is urging the Houston community come together on two separate evenings to mourn the death of Jakelin Amei Rosmery Caal Maquin. 
 
Jakelin Maquin, a 7-year-old girl from an impoverished Guatemalan village, died last week while in custody of U.S. border patrol agents. 
 
She and her father were detained in the New Mexico desert.Her death was made public this past Thursday causing anger and unrest. Her death has raised questions from activist groups about how migrants are treated at the border and in custody.

Early last week CAIR California representatives and religious leaders were arrested at the border in their act of peaceful protesting in support of refugees and migrants.
